Wendy Lahucik Sanchez was an outstanding gymnast at Wheeling High School. She competed for Wheeling High School from 1989-1991. Wendy was a ten-time MSL champion, winning the balance beam three times, the vault three times, the floor exercise once, and for three years was the all-around conference champion. Wendy also achieved great success in the I.H.S.A. State series. She was an eleven time regional champion, and a nine time sectional champion. At the 1989 I.H.S.A. State meet, Wendy finished sixth in the vault, third on the beam, and fourth in the all-around. In 1990, she finished second on the vault, third in the all-around, and was the state champion on the balance beam. In 1991, Wendy was third on vault, second on floor exercise, second in the all-around, and won her second consecutive state championship on the balance beam. Her score of 9.875 that year broke the state record on beam. Due to her success, Wendy was honored as the I.H.S.A. Senior Gymnast of the Year.
