Keith Vernon was a great friend to Wheeling athletics. For many years, Keith was a fixture at Wheeling High School athletic events. Keith served as the official clock operator for the Wheeling football games from 1965 through 2001. He was also the official scorer for Wheeling basketball from 1965 through 2002. Keith further served as a volunteer girls’ track and field coach, and also served as a timer for many of Wheeling’s meets. In 1989, Keith was inducted into the Illinois High School Basketball Coaches Association Hall of Fame as a “Friend of Basketball.”
