Bob Schulze was a pioneer at Wheeling High School. He started his career the first year Wheeling opened, retiring in 1992 after 28 years as a teacher and coach. As a coach, Bob was involved in football, baseball, golf, and wrestling. While Bob excelled as a coach in all sports, it was in wrestling that he made his biggest contribution. In his tenure as the head wrestling coach at Wheeling, he coached two MSL divisional championship teams and two I.H.S.A. regional championship teams. Bob also coached one MSL conference championship team and one I.H.S.A. sectional championship team. Coach Schulze had 13 MSL individual champions and 14 I.H.S.A. individual state qualifiers. Besides his coaching accomplishments, Bob will be most remembered for his devotion and connection to the students at Wheeling High School, including his own three sons who played sports and graduated from Wheeling High School. Bob passed away in May 2007, but his legacy will always live on at Wheeling High School.
