Dana Miroballi was an outstanding cross country and track athlete at Wheeling High School. In cross-country, Dana was a member of two I.H.S.A. state championship teams in 1984 and 1986. Dana was also a four time state champion in cross-country. She remains the only four time cross-country champion when the sport had only one class. In track and field, Dana was a member of three I.H.S.A. state runner-up teams. Dana was also a four time state champion in the 3200-meter run, a two time state champion in the 1600-meter run, and in 1985 she was a High School All American in the 3200-meter run. In 1988 she was the Athlete of the Year for the Chicago Tribune, Chicago Sun-Times, Daily Herald, and March of Dimes.
