Dawn Samuelson Rutz Athletics

Dawn Samuelson was an outstanding cross country and track athlete at Wheeling High School. In cross-country, she was a member of the 1984 and 1986 IHSA state championship teams. In track and field Dawn was a four time MSL champion and a three time IHSA sectional champion in the 400 meter run. She also won 3 individual state medals in the 400 with a 4th place finish in 1984, an 8th place finish in 1986, and a 6th place finish in 1987. Dawn was also part of the 1984 MSL champion 400 meter relay team and the IHSA sectional champion 1600 meter relay. In 1985 she helped the 800 meter relay win the MSL championship. Dawn’s 400 meter relay was also the MSL and IHSA Sectional champion and 4th place finishers at the 1986 IHSA State Meet. In 1986 her 4 x 800 relay also captured 2nd at the IHSA State Meet. In 1987 Dawn also helped the 4 x 800 relay and the 800 medley relay finish 2nd in the state. Her overall efforts helped her team finish 2nd in the state in 1985, 1986, and 1987.
