Edwardo Torres was an outstanding cross country and track athlete at Wheeling High School. In cross country, Edwardo was a four-time all-state runner. At the I.H.S.A. state meet in 1995, he finished 11th, in ‘96 he placed 9th. In 1997 Ed was 8th and in ‘98 finished 3rd. That 3rd place finish helped WHS win the 1998 Illinois State cross country championship. Also, at the national level, Edwardo was a three-time qualifier to the Foot Locker National Cross Country Championships. In track and field, Edwardo was a four-time I.H.S.A. state medalist. In both 1998 and 1999, he was 4th in the 1600m run and 2nd in the 3200m run. At the time of his induction, Edwardo was the Wheeling record holder in the 3200m run with a time of 9:08.4.
