Ann Kent Haller was a standout 3 sport athlete at Wheeling High School. She excelled in volleyball, basketball, and track and field. In her career at Wheeling, Ann earned 10 varsity letters. In volleyball, Ann was a 3 year starter, co-captain, and team MVP. She also earned All-Conference recognition in 1982. Ann was also a 3 year starter on the basketball team. In her career she served as the team captain and was the named the team MVP. In 1983 Ann was named to the MSL All-Conference team and named a Daily Herald All Area Honorable Mention player. From 1980 through 1983 Ann helped Wheeling dominate in Track and Field. She was part of the team that won 4 straight MSL conference championships. Ann was a 2 time MSL champion in the discus, and a MSL champion in the shot put. Ann also qualified for the IHSA State Track and Field meet multiple times. In 1982 she finished 4th in the state in the discus, in 1983 she finished 3rd in the state in the discus and 7th in the shot. Her discus throw of 134’3” in 1983 still stands as the Wheeling school record. Ann capped her career off as the Wheeling female athlete of the year and the District 214 Howard Lester Award Winner.
