Jon Hittman was both and outstanding athlete and coach at Wheeling High School. As an athlete, Jon played football and baseball for four years, and swam for two years. In football, he was named to the all-conference team his junior and senior year. Jon was also named the team captain his senior year. In baseball, he was named to the all-conference team his junior year. While at WHS, Jon was the embodiment of the student athlete. He graduated in the top 10% of his class and was a member of the National Honor Society. Jon attended Northwestern on a football scholarship, after which he returned to District 214 as a teacher and coach. From 1979-1982, he was the head football coach at Wheeling High School. His teams were very competitive in the MSL and in 1981 he was named the Mid Suburban League Coach of the Year.
