Dave Dunbar was an outstanding coach during his illustrious career. He spent over 35 years making a positive impact across multiple sports. Most of those years were in District 214 and at Wheeling High School. Dave started his coaching career in District 214 at Rolling Meadows High School. After a few years at Meadows Dave came to Wheeling High School. Dave joined the varsity football staff in 1988-89. He served as the defensive coordinator for 11 seasons and helped guide the Wildcats to the playoffs in 1994 and 1996. In 2001 Dave became the head coach of the Cats. Dave served as the head coach for 13 seasons. Coach Dunbar’s teams qualified for the playoffs in 2007 and 2008. He is the only head coach in the history of Wheeling High School to guide a team to back to back playoff appearances. Throughout his career Dave coached with incredible class and dignity, traits he passed on to his players.
