Jim Christopher is the Father of the Wheeling High School girl’s tennis program. For 40 years, Jim was a coach and mentor to the tennis community at WHS, starting as an assistant coach in the girls’ program. After 9 years, he was hired to take over the girls’ tennis program as the varsity coach, a position he held for 31 years. As the leader of the program, Jim coached many MSL conference champions and medalists, as well as multiple sectional medalists and IHSA state qualifiers. In addition to coaching the girls, Jim was also very involved in our boys’ program and served as the varsity boys’ coach for 8 years. In total, Coach Christopher coached 70 seasons of tennis at Wheeling High School, making him one of the longest-serving coaches in the history of the school. For his service to the sport, Jim was inducted into the Illinois State Tennis Coaches Hall of Fame in January of 2016.
